ANNANDALE, VA – Anne Arundel Community College's women's cross country team took home the NJCAA Division III Region XX Championship plaque this weekend after surpassing Howard Community College and Westmoreland Community College during a brutally windy day on a very hilly course at host Northern Virginia Community College.
Along with their DIII Region XX win, Anne Arundel Community College bested DI Harford Community College by 3 points to take home the title win for the Maryland Junior College Conference as well.
With a second place finish and time of 22:20.4, sophomore Sidney Hinkle (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) was the top finisher for the Riverhawks and earned 1st Team All Region and 1st Team All MD JUCO honors.
Romina Montes Rodriguez (Hanover, MD/Old Mill) also earned 1st Team All Region and 1st Team All MD JUCO honors with her fifth place finish and time of 23:53.8.
Also in the top 10 for AACC was Shannon Martin (Severna Park, MD) placing sixth, Crystal Warffuel (Lake Forest, CA/El Toror) placing eighth, and Madelynn Argumedo (Linthicum, MD/North County) placing ninth. Martin clocked in at 24:19.1, while Warrfuel finished in 25:20 and Argumedo was 25:25.6.
Overall, AACC had five runners in the top 10, and they finished with 30 points - 15 ahead of second place Howard Community College.
The Riverhawks season will continue, as they will travel to Fingerlakes Community College of New York for the NJCAA Division III Cross Country Championship, Saturday November12th.
