HANOVER, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team powered to a doubleheader sweep of Orange County Community College on Sunday at Joe Cannon Stadium, taking the opener 21–12 before closing out the day with a 3–2 victory in the nightcap. The Riverhawks combined for 24 runs on 18 hits across the two games and improved to 5–1 on the season.
Game One: AACC 21, OCC 12
AACC erupted for four runs in the first inning, three more in the second, and later sealed the result with a 10‑run sixth, overwhelming the Colts' pitching staff in a 21–12 win. The Riverhawks collected 13 hits, stole seven bases, and drew 10 walks in a relentless offensive performance.
Sophomore Chris Ricks went 3‑for‑3 with two RBI, a pair of stolen bases and a sacrifice fly. Jack Woods added three hits, three RBI and three stolen bases, while Camden Hodges drove in three, including a run‑scoring double. Matt Dove, AJ Cozzone, and Alex Swan each contributed key RBI hits as AACC scored in five of six innings.
AACC used four pitchers, with starter Gunnar Gemmell working the first 2.1 innings before the bullpen navigated heavy traffic, holding OCC to four earned runs despite 11 hits and 11 walks. Clint Dorval earned his first win of the season, allowing one hit and striking out two in the final two innings.
Game Two: AACC 3, OCC 2
The second game shifted to a tight, low‑scoring battle in which freshman right‑hander Gavin Glos threw five shutout innings and gave up just four hits while striking out five to earn his first win of the season. The Riverhawks managed only five hits but capitalized on early scoring chances to secure the sweep.
Ryan Jones doubled, singled, and drove in a run, while Hodges tripled home another as AACC built a 2–0 lead through three innings. A fifth‑inning RBI single from Jones extended the advantage to 3–0. Evan Birch tossed the final two innings to pick up his first save of the season.
OCC mounted a late comeback, scoring two in the seventh with one out. With a runner on first, the Colts' batter flew out to center, and the Riverhawks' appealed the runner reaching second to end the game on a double play.
The Riverhawks are scheduled to open Region 20 divisional action at home Thursday in a 3 p.m. single, nine-inning game against the College of Southern Maryland.
