Baseball Edges CCBC Catonsville
Andrew Darrow picks up win in relief
ARNOLD, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College baseball team used patience at the plate and a steady bullpen to edge CCBC Catonsville 4-3 in a Region 20 game Thursday afternoon at Skip Brown Field.
AACC scored two runs in the first inning without a hit, capitalizing on four walks and two wild pitches. Ryan Jones and Camden Hodges both walked and eventually scored.
CCBC answered quickly with two runs in the top of the first on back-to-back doubles to tie the game 2-2. Catonsville added another run in the second on Damir Simon's sacrifice fly to take a 3-2 lead.
The Riverhawks tied it in the bottom of the second when AJ Cozzone, who was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Ryan Jones' single aided by a throwing error.
AACC pushed ahead for good in the sixth inning when Jack Woods walked, stole third and scored on a balk for the 4-3 advantage.
Andrew Darrow earned the win in relief for AACC, allowing two hits over the final four innings while striking out three. Reliever Gunnar Gemmell allowed one run on three hits while striking out three and walking three in 4.1 innings. Cam Sisson took the loss for CCBC after allowing four runs in five-plus innings.
AACC finished with two hits but drew nine walks. CCBC totaled seven hits but stranded 10 runners.
