Hagerstown Outlasts Men's Basketball
Zamar Jones nets career-high 23 points, sinks seven three-pointers
ARNOLD, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College men's basketball team matched Hagerstown basket‑for‑basket through the opening minutes and knocked down 10 three‑pointers on the afternoon, but a strong HCC interior attack and second‑chance scoring swing the momentum as the Riverhawks fell 71–55 on Saturday at Jenkins Gym. [
AACC (3–12, 3–11) opened the game aggressively—Zamar Jones hit a three just 1:06 in, and the Riverhawks trailed only 7–6 at the first time out. Hagerstown responded with a run fueled by paint touches and transition scoring, stretching its largest first‑half lead to 17 points at 12:43. Still, AACC never folded, scoring six points in the final minute of the half to go into the break within four at 36–32.
Zamar Jones caught fire early and stayed hot, finishing with 23 points, including a 7-for-11 effort from three-point range. Ryan Stacy added 13 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Jaylen Marbley came on strong in the second half, finishing with 11 points, five assists, five rebounds, and three steals.
AACC shot 37% from three (10–27) and 30.4% overall, while winning the offensive glass 10–7.
Anthony Thomas brought energy off the bench with six points and seven rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Al‑Ameen Sanni added seven boards, a key second‑half layup, and physical defense in the paint.
After trailing 36–32 at halftime, AACC opened the second half with a Sanni layup to make it 36–34, but Hagerstown answered with an 11–2 run. The Riverhawks countered with a trio of threes from Jones, and another from Marbley at 5:17, but HCC maintained at least two‑possession cushion for the remainder of the game. AACC closed strong, with Marbley and Jones combining for 13 points in the final six minutes, but could not shrink the gap further.
AACC is back in action on Monday evening at NCAA DIII Penn State York. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
