Jerome Greenwell, Jr.

Bio

Jerome M. Greenwell, Jr. joined the Anne Arundel Community College men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in May 2026, bringing experience in coaching, player development, education, and leadership to the Riverhawks program.

Greenwell arrived at AACC after spending the previous five seasons on the boys’ basketball staff at Southern High School. During his tenure, he played a key role in skill development, scouting, game preparation, while overseeing the JV program for four seasons. Multiple players earned All-County, All-State, and All-Academic honors during his tenure.

Southern established itself as one of the top Class 2A programs in Maryland during Greenwell’s tenure, capturing back-to-back 2A region championships in 2025 and 2026 while advancing to the 2A state semifinals in 2026.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Greenwell has served as a physical education teacher at Southern High School since 2024 and has worked within Anne Arundel County Public Schools since 2021. His background in education and mentorship has shaped his coaching philosophy, which emphasizes discipline, accountability, player development, and team culture.

Greenwell earned both his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and master of professional studies in public administration leadership from St. John's University, where he attended from 2011-16. He is also a graduate of Southern High School, where he was a two-year member of the basketball program and served as team captain during his senior season.

Known for his passion for teaching the fundamentals of the game and building meaningful relationships with student-athletes, Greenwell is committed to helping players succeed both on the court and in the classroom. He resides in Bowie, Maryland, with his girlfriend, Ariana, and their son, JJ.
