Becomes first women's golf All-American in AACC history
CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. – Anne Arundel Community College golfer Ela Simpson finished seventh at the 2024 NJCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships Friday to become the first women's golf All-American in Riverhawks history.
Simpson finished with a 371 in the four-day, 72-hole tournament at the par-72 Chautauqua Golf Court. She claimed the fifth spot on the individual leaderboard with an 85 on the first day before falling three spots after a 99 round on Wednesday. She moved up to a tie for seventh after rallying in the third round with a 92. Simpson finished the tournament with a 95 to take sole possession of seventh place and a spot on the All-America Second Team.
Simpson, in her first year of collegiate golf at AACC, was also the Region 20 Division III women's champion, finishing 24 strokes ahead of her nearest competitor in the two-day Region Championship May 13-14 at the Links at Spring Church in Apollo, Pa.
Simpson is also the first All-American from Anne Arundel since Luke Schwartz earned Second Team honors with an 11th place finish at the 2019 NJCAA DIII Championships, also at Chautauqua, N.Y.
