Late Goal Lifts Men's Lax Over Delaware Tech
Riverhawks open season with 13-12 win
FREDERICA, Del. – Freshman attackman Alex Patton scored with 2.2 seconds left in the game to give the Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team a 13-12 win against Delaware Tech Wednesday evening in the Riverhawks' season opener. Patton totaled 13 points on seven goals and an assist.
Aaron Herdt scored three goals and assisted two others, while David Law scored twice and picked up three assists to go with four caused turnovers.
The Riverhawks trailed, 6-3, at halftime, but scored four in a row to take a one-goal lead at 6:34 of the quarter. After allowing one goal to Delaware Tech in the third, AACC rattled off three more to head into the fourth with a 10-7 lead.
AACC added a man-up goal early in the fourth before Delaware Tech went on a five-goal spree to retake the lead. Brock Cutler knotted the game at 12-12 with 1:10 left in the fourth. AACC called time out with 11.3 ticks left on the clock, setting up Patton to carry up top for the game-winner just before time expired.
AACC dominated the faceoff x, led by an 18-of-25 effort from sophomore James Kavney, who also had a game-high 13 groundballs. Ethan Johnson went 3-for-3 at the faceoff x.
Sophomore defenseman Jake Howard recorded three caused turnovers to go with six ground balls. Freshman goalie Ian Roberts tallied 10 saves in his first career win.
The Riverhawks' man-up unit went 3-for-5, scoring in the first, third, and fourth quarters.
AACC hosts CCBC Essex on Wednesday, March 4, in a 6 pm game at Siegert Field.
