ARNOLD, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team used a dominant first half to power to a 16–6 win over Mercer County Community College on Saturday afternoon at Siegert Field.
Alex Patton led all scorers with six goals and one assist, including one man‑up and one man-down strike. The Riverhawks (2–1) outshot Mercer, 65–27, and controlled possession throughout, winning 22 of 25 faceoffs behind a standout performance from James Kavney, who went 18-for-20 and collected 19 ground balls.
AACC opened the game with a 5–0 first quarter, fueled by two goals each from Patton and Aaron Herdt. Herdt finished with four goals and one assist, scoring a pair of man-up goals 26 seconds apart in the third quarter.
Sophomore David Law turned in a balanced effort with two goals, three assists and six ground balls, while Gus Ratje scored twice and added an assist. Jake Howard chipped in a goal and four caused turnovers as the Riverhawks' held Mercer to a 15 of 30 clearing effort.
AACC's defense held the Vikings (0–1) to nine shots on goal. Goalie Ian Roberts earned the win with five goals allowed and one save in 50 minutes before Mitch Riith closed the final 10 minutes with two saves and one goal allowed.
AACC returns to action on Wednesday in a 4 p.m. non-region game at Howard Community College.
