LARGO, Md. — The fifth seeded Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team defeated fourth seed Prince George's, 1-0, in the NJCAA Region 20 DII first round Saturday afternoon. The win avenged a late regular season loss to the Owls and sends the Riverhawks to the Region 20 semifinals for the first time since at the Division II level.
Freshman Gage Jordan provided the difference in the 69th minute, finishing off a cross from Jack Bell for the match's only goal.
The Riverhawks' back line held firm the rest of the way, anchored by goalkeeper Ethan Kiniry, who made four saves to record his third shutout of the season.
Anne Arundel (6-10-1) came alive in the second half, generating eight shots on target and three corner kicks in the frame. Overall, AACC outshot Prince George's, 21-12, and held a 4-0 edge in corner kicks. The Riverhawks' midfield controlled possession throughout, limiting quality chances for the Owls.
Winners of four of the last five games while outscoring opponents 12-4 in the stretch, Anne Arundel will face top seed and nationally-ranked Howard Community College on the Dragons' home field for the Region 20 DII Semifinals at 12 p.m. on Thursday, October 30.
