COLUMBIA, Md. – The fifth seeded Anne Arundel Community College men's soccer team fell to top seed and 14th-ranked Howard Community College, 3-0, in the Region 20 semifinals Thursday at the Dragons' turf field.
Yeabsira Tesfaye had a hat trick for the Dragons, with goals in the 27th, 62nd, and 75th minutes.
AACC had a great chance to get on the board just after Howard's third goal, as Henry Guillen played a through ball from Jonathan Greene, but was stopped by a diving save from the Howard keeper.
The Riverhawks maintained the momentum as Axel Cartagena corralled a clear attempt and fired from 19 yards out, but the Riverhawks were denied again.
With just under five minutes left, AACC made another push, seeing a shot from Cartagena get carried high by the wind before a Jack Bell corner kick found the foot of Aydan Simms, but again, the wind carried his shot just high of the net.
AACC's back line of Gage Jordan, Alec Ehrenfried, and Carlos Montoya kept the game within reach for the Riverhawks, and were bolstered by nine saves from Ethan Kiniry in net.
Howard held a 20-13 advantage in shots, and led in corner kicks, 5-4.
The Riverhawks, who reached the Region 20 semifinals for the first time since 2022, end their season with a 6-11-1 record. Howard (15-1-1) advances to play second seed CCBC Essex for the championship on Saturday.
