Allegany College of Maryland
CUMBERLAND, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College softball team collected 18 hits in a Region 20 divisional doubleheader split with Allegany College of Maryland on Tuesday. AACC rolled to an 8-1 victory in the opener before falling, 7-4 in the nightcap at the ACM Softball Field.
Game One: AACC 8, Allegany 1
AACC controlled the first game from the circle behind Lindsay Cavey, who tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts while allowing just one run on three hits. The Riverhawks scratched out an early run in the first inning, then broke the game open with a seven-run sixth. Ryleigh Smoot led the offense by going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Mackenzie Sparwasser added two hits and an RBI. Jayda Betts scored twice and stole two bases as AACC capitalized on six Allegany errors to seal the win.
Game Two: Allegany 7, AACC 4
The nightcap saw AACC jump in front early, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding another in the third as Sydney Brown and Betts combined for five hits at the top of the lineup. Smoot finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Cavey drove in two runs despite being held hitless. Allegany answered steadily, scoring in four different innings and using timely extra-base hits to pull away late.
AACC finished the nightcap with nine hits, led again by Betts (2-for-4, two runs) and Brown (3-for-4, double), but stranded runners in each of the final four innings. Cavey took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs over 5.2 innings.
The Riverhawks are back in action on Friday, April 24, hosting Chesapeake in a 3 p.m. Region 20 divisional doubleheader at the AACC Softball Field.
