ARNOLD, Md. -- The Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team used a five-goal second half to pull away from CCBC Essex in a 6-1 Region 20 divisional victory Tuesday evening at Siegert Field. The Riverhawks extended their win streak to eight games with the win.
Emma Miga led Anne Arundel with two goals and one assist to record her 50th point of the season and into a tie for the most points in NJCAA DII. Eva Gionis added a pair of goals and Regan Chilton recorded a goal and assist.
Miga opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but Essex answered in the 34th when Autumn Riddell converted to even the match at 1-1. After a tight first half, the Riverhawks exploded offensively after the break.
Gionis netted the go-ahead goal in the 46th minute off a pass from Miga, then Miga added her second goal six minutes later, assisted by Chilton. Chilton followed with a goal of her own in the 78th minute, and Gionis extended the lead to 5-1 just two minutes later. Maddie Wright capped the scoring in the 82nd minute, one-timing in a cross from Riley Sheets.
Riverhawks' goalkeeper Ryleigh Smoot made one stop as the Riverhawks outshot Essex 29-2.
AACC (9-3, 6-1 Region 20) is back in action on Saturday, October 11, when the Riverhawks travel to No. 13 (DI) Monroe Community College for a 12 p.m. game.
