CUMBERLAND, Md.— The Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team closed its regular season in dominant fashion Tuesday, defeating Allegany College of Maryland, 4-0, on the road to clinch its 10th Region 20 divisional victory of the year and lock up the number two seed in the Region 20 tournament.
Emma Miga scored twice and Ryleigh Smoot made five saves to record her eighth shutout of the season as the Riverhawks (12-4, 10-1 Region 20) outshot Allegany 33-5. Miga opened the scoring in the 28th minute off a feed from Eva Gionis, who later assisted on Miga's second goal in the 54th minute.
Riley Sheets made it 2-0 early in the second half with her 15th goal of the season, and Maddie Raynes capped the scoring in the 68th minute off an assist from MacKenzie Baldwin.
AACC held a 5-0 edge in shots on goal in the first half and finished the game outshooting the Trojans, 19-5. Allegany keeper Genesis Alvarez finished with 15 saves.
The Riverhawks will host seventh seed CCBC Catonsville in the first round of the Region 20 tournament at 11 am on Saturday, October 25. Admission is free and the game will be streamed at www.youtube.com/aaccathletics.
