Riverhawks travel to Westmoreland for tri match Saturday
ARNOLD, Md. — The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team dropped a Region 20 divisional match to visiting College of Southern Maryland Tuesday evening falling 3-1 (11–25, 25–20, 14–25, 16–25) at Jenkins Gym
Emily Ezeiruaku led AACC with a career-high 12 kills to go with four aces and six digs. Myiah Parks added six kills and a block. Kailani Ricks chipped in with four kills, 11 digs and an ace. Melissa Cunningham totaled nine digs to go with 11 assists and a pair of blocks. Bella Hadden posted 14 assists, six digs and an ace. Ari Smith recorded 13 digs as libero.
CSM set the tone early with a dominant first set, hitting .500 as a team and piling up six service aces. The Riverhawks struggled to find rhythm and dropped the frame 25–11
Anne Arundel responded with its best volleyball of the night. Behind Ezeiruaku's four kills and a balanced attack, the Riverhawks surged ahead midway through the set. Hadden directed the offense with nine assists in the frame, while Ricks and Nadia Suber each added key points. AACC's serve came alive as well, delivering four aces in the set, and the Riverhawks held on for a 25–20 win to even the match at 1–1.
The momentum swung back CSM's way in the third set as Leila Iafeta took over with six kills in the set. Despite six kills and a service ace of their own, the Riverhawks couldn't slow the Hawks' 25–14 push.
AACC kept things close early in the fourth with Parks and Ezeiruaku sparking the offense, but Southern Maryland's serving pressure and steady blocking proved the difference. CSM finished with 15 kills in the set, pulling away for a 25–16 clincher.
Anne Arundel finished with 28 kills, nine aces, and 53 digs but slipped to 2–4 overall and 1–3 in conference play. CSM improved to 6–5 (4–0 Region 20).
The Riverhawks travel to Westmoreland Community College for a Region 20 divisional tri match on Saturday, facing Frederick CC at 2 p.m. and the host Wolfpack at 4 p.m.
