ROCKVILLE, Md. – The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team battled throughout but fell in straight sets to Montgomery College, 25-19, 25-12, 25-18, in Region 20 play Tuesday night.
The Riverhawks kept things close early, erasing an early deficit to tie the first set at 8-8 before Montgomery surged ahead late. Sophomore Emily Ezeiruaku led AACC with seven kills, while Melissa Cunningham posted 12 assists, six digs, and two service aces. Leah Tompkins added three kills and five digs, and Hope Lewis tallied four digs and two block assists.
Emily Shadle anchored the defense with a team-high eight digs and chipped in an ace, while Nadia Suber and Lewis each contributed a block.
Montgomery (21-4) was paced by Sofiia Mateshuk, who recorded 11 kills, and Isabella Pavlo, who added nine.
